FAQ regarding the QR code on the Certificate/Transcript:

In what way are the certificates with VERIFIABLE CREDENTIALS (VC) issued by IIIT-B different and special compared to traditional paper certificates and transcripts?
Certificates issued by IIIT-B are digitally signed and cryptographically secure, allowing instant and trusted verification by anyone globally without contacting the institute. Unlike paper documents, these credentials cannot be tampered with, ensuring authenticity and preventing fraud. Hence, these certificates are called VERIFIABLE CREDENTIALS (VC).

What does the QR Code in the document contain? Can we scan and see what data is there in the QR Code?
The QR code contains securely encoded data of the certificate or transcript. Although the QR code can be scanned using any standard camera or QR scanning application, the information retrieved will not be directly human-readable due to secure encoding. To access and view the detailed information, authorized users should log in to IIIT-B’s official verification portal at verify.iiitb.ac.in (coming soon).

Why am I unable to scan the QR code?
The QR code contains securely encoded certificate information, designed specifically for verification through IIIT-B’s official verification portal (verify.iiitb.ac.in), which will be available shortly. Regular QR code scanners or camera applications won’t decode this specialized data. Please use the authorized portal to scan and verify your document once it is live.

Do the transcript & certificate have the same QR code?
No, the transcript and certificate documents typically contain distinct QR codes, each linking uniquely to their respective Verifiable Credentials. This ensures independent verification of each document.

If I have received two copies of my certificate/transcript document - One is in paper form and another is the Digital version of the same. Is the Digital version legally valid just like the paper version of the document?
Yes, the digital version issued by IIIT-B carries the same legal validity and recognition as the original paper document. This digital version is fully compliant with applicable Indian IT regulations and international standards for electronic documents.

Will a digital copy of documents with VERIFIABLE CREDENTIALS be accepted by other universities?
Yes, digital documents issued by IIIT-B are widely accepted and recognized by universities globally. Universities can easily verify the authenticity of these documents by accessing IIIT-B’s official verification portal (verify.iiitb.ac.in), which will be available shortly.

When we have to upload our certificates in various portals (e.g., universities, placement), should we upload a scanned version of the paper document, or can we upload a saved Digital version directly?
While both a scanned copy and the digital version are shareable and verifiable, the institute recommends uploading the official digital certificate. It’s digitally signed, instantly verifiable via the QR code at verify.iiitb.ac.in, and avoids the scan-quality problems that can make QR codes unreadable in scanned documents.
